National Security Operatives in the Ashanti Region have intercepted a large quantity of diapers believed to be counterfeit. According to the operatives, these diapers, which bear the name of a well-known Ghanaian company, were smuggled into the country from Nigeria using false documentation.
The interception took place three weeks ago during a routine inspection in Asafo, where the suspicious products were found. Samples of the seized diapers were sent to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), which confirmed that the items are indeed counterfeit and unsafe for public use.
Following the FDA’s directive, the National Security team, on August 20, 2025, handed over the products to Zoomlion’s Medical Waste Treatment Plant for safe and scientific disposal. Speaking to the media on Thursday, August 21, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, Alhaji Tapsoba Alhassan, stated that efforts are currently underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for importing the fake products.
