Minority rejects the reduction of E-levy to 1.5%

The Minority in Parliament has rejected a reduction of the Electronic Transaction levy to 1.5 per cent from 1.75 per cent.

The latest reduction was tabled during consultations with the minority on Friday after Thursday’s meeting ended inconclusively.

Starr FM’s Parliamentary correspondent Ibrahim Alhassan reports that the government has now decided to table the E-Levy bill to the plenary later on Friday for a decision to be taken.

The latest reduction in the fee comes after the Government side led by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta maintained the 1.75% rate during earlier negotiations with the minority.

The position of the Finance Minister got the Minority to question the essence of the engagement in the first place.

The Minority side was led by its leader Haruna Iddrisu, Chief whip Muntaka Mubarak and other leaders.
