Government Not Involved in Bossman Asare’s Exit — Kwakye Ofosu

Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has dismissed claims that the government played any role in the resignation of Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) responsible for Corporate Affairs. His clarification follows public speculation suggesting political influence behind the decision. Speaking on Eyewitness News on Monday, June 15, Kwakye Ofosu stressed that the process was entirely lawful and voluntary, with no external pressure applied.

He explained that the removal or resignation of EC members is governed by constitutional and legal procedures that must be strictly observed. According to him, Dr. Asare personally communicated his decision to the President in a formal letter, indicating his intention to step down at the appropriate time.

‘There is no basis for such claims. Dr. Bossman Asare himself, of his own volition, wrote to the President expressing his desire to leave at the appointed date, and that is what happened,’ he stated. The Minister added that steps are underway to appoint a replacement in line with constitutional and administrative requirements.
