The Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC) has closed down eight facilities in Accra following a 15-day enforcement exercise targeting unlicensed operators in naturopathy, homoeopathy, chiropractic care, massage services, herbal shops, and organic product outlets. Since the operation began, more than 500 facilities have been inspected, with several operators served notices for non-compliance.
This year alone, the Council has also shut down eight herbal shops and six spas in Accra for operating without the required licences. Speaking to the media on Thursday, April 23, TMPC’s Head of Compliance, Michael Lawson, confirmed: “So far since we started, we have closed about eight facilities.”
He explained that the exercise will be extended nationwide to strengthen public safety and restore confidence in traditional and alternative medicine services. Mr Lawson stressed that the initiative is designed to protect the public by ensuring only qualified and licensed practitioners operate. He further urged clients to verify the credentials of service providers before seeking care.
“The public needs to check some of these places when you seek such services if they have licences,” he added.
