Ten people have lost their lives after a VIP bus collided with a diesel trailer on the Accra–Kumasi Highway near Suhum, the Ghana National Fire Service has confirmed. The crash occurred at Mile 44 on Monday, April 13, 2026, around 2:00 p.m., following what officials described as a wrongful overtaking manoeuvre by the bus.
A distress call alerted the Suhum Municipal Fire Station, prompting a rapid response by a seven-member team. The bus was carrying 33 passengers at the time of the collision. Nine men and one woman were pronounced dead at the scene, while no passengers were trapped in the wreckage. Both vehicles sustained partial damage.
Firefighters secured the accident site and carried out rescue and recovery operations before returning to base. Authorities have yet to release the identities of the victims, whose bodies have been taken to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
