The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced that its members will embark on an indefinite nationwide strike beginning Monday, March 9, 2026, citing delays in the implementation of their agreed conditions of service. The association explained that the industrial action has become necessary due to the government’s failure to respond to outstanding concerns raised by its leadership.
Although the National Labour Commission had earlier directed CLOGSAG to suspend the strike, the association has instructed its members to disregard the directive and proceed. Speaking to Citi News on Sunday, March 8, the association’s Public Relations Officer, Edmund Aquaye, stated that the leadership has not received any communication from their employer since the strike was announced.
Since announcing its intention to strike last Thursday, the National Executive Council (NEC) of CLOGSAG has yet to receive any communication from its employer. As a result, the strike remains in force, with the association urging all members to stay away from work. “We are on strike,” a spokesperson emphasised.
Meanwhile, labour analyst Austin Gamey has called for dialogue among stakeholders to avert disruptions in the operations of ministries and government agencies. He suggested that engagement through the National Labour Commission could help secure a clear timeline from the employer for resolving the matter.
Mr Gamey further explained that the President had urged patience, noting that salary administration issues required the establishment of an independent body. This, he said, has limited the ability of the Ministry of Finance, the Labour Commission, and other institutions to take immediate action. Mr Gamey added, “I would have loved it if they went to the Labour Commission and the commission would then compel the employer to give a timeline for the matter to be resolved once and for all.”
