The Constitution of Ghana Amendment Bill, 2025 has been formally laid before Parliament for consideration. The proposed legislation seeks to amend the Constitution by removing restrictions that currently bar dual citizens and individuals with allegiance to another country from holding certain public offices in Ghana.
Positions affected under the amendment include Ambassador or High Commissioner, Secretary to the Cabinet, Chief of Defence Staff or any Service Chief, and Inspector-General of Police. Following its First Reading, the First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, referred the bill to Parliament’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee for detailed examination and a report. The committee is expected to review the proposed changes and present its findings to the House before further parliamentary action is taken.
