Ten armed individuals impersonating members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) task force have been apprehended in the Nyankamam-Armori Forest, located within the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region.
The suspects, who are believed to have ties to the Aowin Traditional Authority, were allegedly extorting money from illegal miners and facilitating galamsey operations with impunity. The arrests were made during a dawn raid by NAIMOS operatives, who discovered weapons and talismans in the possession of the group.
The suspects have been transferred to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and potential prosecution.
