Education Ministry probes alleged GHC15k bribe for BECE placement at Aburi Girls

The Ministry of Education has initiated an investigation into allegations circulating on social media that admission to Aburi Girls’ Senior High School costs GHC15,000. These claims, attributed to an individual named Gertrude Adzo Borklo, suggest that the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Computerized School Placement System is being sold. However, the Ministry has dismissed these allegations as false and characterized them as part of a “conspiratorial narrative” intended to undermine the credibility of the system.

In a statement released on Thursday, September 25, 2025, the Ministry noted that efforts to contact the author of the post were unsuccessful, as her account was deactivated shortly after the publication. Additionally, it observed that other anonymous accounts have been promoting similar claims. The Ministry stated that it is working in collaboration with National Security, the Cyber Security Authority, and other agencies to identify and track those responsible for these allegations.

Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, who signed the statement, stressed that the placement process is entirely free of charge. “At no point is payment required to access this service. We call on members of the public to provide any information or evidence of persons, whether Ministry officials or third parties, who demand money for placements. The Ministry assures swift and decisive action against any individual found culpable,” the statement read.

Members of the public have been encouraged to report any suspected incidents of bribery or extortion through the Ministry’s dedicated hotlines:

054 154 8223 (Calls)

024 490 8957 (WhatsApp)

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s school placement system and urged citizens to help expose individuals attempting to exploit the process.
