Mrs. Rita Omane Boamah, the widow of the late Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, delivered a heartfelt tribute to her husband during the final state funeral for the eight Ghanaians who tragically lost their lives in the military helicopter crash on August 6. In a tribute read on her behalf at the Black Star Square on Friday, August 15, she reflected on a question her husband often asked her: “Abena Rita, what will you do when I am not around?” She admitted, “I never answered you, and to this day, I still don’t have an answer.”
Mrs. Omane Boamah reminisced about their first meeting on a medical school bus, despite not being a medical student herself. She described their shared journey as one filled with love, laughter, and late-night walks. She characterised the late Defence Minister as a “loving and perfect father,” who skillfully balanced his demanding career as a doctor and politician with family life.
“Despite your busy schedule, you either bathed the children every morning or dressed them while I bathed them. You were their favourite teacher, knowing their syllabus inside and out, always making time for both study and play,” she shared. She concluded with a promise: “With God’s help, I will take care of Mum and our three children, knowing that you will be looking down on us from the heavens.”
“Kofi B, thank you for loving me, for loving our children, for loving my family, and for all who had the privilege to know you. Rest in power, my love.”
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah was among the eight Ghanaians who lost their lives in the helicopter crash, along with Minister for Environment Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed; and crew members Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
