Three candidates have submitted nomination forms to contest the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Akwatia Constituency. The candidates include former Member of Parliament Henry Boakye, current NDC Akwatia Constituency Secretary Bernard Bediako Baidoo, and Erasmus Koney Ali.
According to the party’s schedule, these three candidates, along with any others who submit their nominations before the deadline on Wednesday, July 30, will undergo vetting on Thursday, July 31. Following the vetting, a ballot will be held to determine the candidates’ positions ahead of the primaries, which are scheduled for Monday, August 4, 2025.
This internal election is taking place due to the passing of the sitting MP, prompting a by-election in the constituency. Meanwhile, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reportedly chosen Solomon Kwame Asumadu, Chief Executive of Owuo Mining Company, as its parliamentary candidate. This decision was made after extensive stakeholder consultations, resulting in a consensus instead of a contested primary.
