An Accra High Court has dismissed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) application to prevent the Electoral Commission (EC) from conducting a rerun in the Ablekuma North parliamentary elections scheduled for July 11. The court, led by Justice Ali Baba Abature, deemed the application “unmeritorious.”
The NPP argued that the EC’s actions violated a binding ruling from the High Court dated January 4, 2025, which instructed the Commission to complete the collation of 62 outstanding polling station results and declare a winner for the parliamentary elections held on December 7, 2024.
During the proceedings, the NPP’s legal counsel, Gary Nimako, pointed out that following the January ruling, the EC itself had acknowledged in multiple public communications—such as a press release dated January 27, 2025, and a parliamentary briefing by Deputy EC Chair Dr. Bossman Asare—that only three polling stations remained uncollated.
