Increase in data: AirtelTigo and Telecel, 10%, MTN 15%

The Minister of Communications, Samuel Nartey George, announced that telecommunications companies (telcos) will implement changes to their data bundles starting in July. The new measures include:

  • Airtel Tigo Ghana will increase all data offerings by 10%
  • Telecel will raise all data bundles by 10%
  • MTN will increase all data bundles by 15%

During a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, June 10, he emphasised that he cannot unilaterally order telcos to lower data prices. “The Minister cannot single-handedly order telcos to reduce data prices,” he stated. He also expressed his commitment to an engagement-led leadership style and noted, “The recovery from eight years of mismanagement cannot be completed in four months.”
