I will use policies to ensure affordable internet data – Sam George

Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, stated that he can only implement policies to ensure that internet data remains affordable in Ghana. In an exclusive interview on TV3 with Roland Walker on Friday, April 11, the Ningo Prampram lawmaker emphasized, “I can’t set prices for data; I will use policies to ensure affordable data.”

Samuel Nartey George recently held a press conference during which he outlined a three-pronged strategy aimed at reforming Ghana Post. The minister announced these reforms at a press briefing on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, explaining that they were based on an internal readiness assessment. The first strategy focuses on updating existing infrastructure and information systems to incorporate technological advancements and bolster resilience against cybersecurity threats.

The second step is to modernise logistics systems to guarantee faster and more reliable delivery across all regions. This will be followed by an expansion of service offerings to include e commerce support, secure parcel handling, and access to critical public services. “These reforms will transform Ghana Post into a vital enabler of e-commerce, cross-border trade, and citizen access to essential government services, laying the foundation for a more connected and efficient national economy,” the Minister said.

The Minister further stated that steps have been taken to better position Ghana Post to take advantage of the increased e-commerce activity and to ensure Ghana’s readiness to take full advantage of trading under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). “Plans are underway to strengthen the backbone of domestic and cross-border trade logistics, especially for small businesses across the Country looking to expand beyond national borders,” he added.
