Akufo Addo-Bawumia government must pay WAEC its outstanding balance – Dr. Apaak

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Builsa South Constituency, Dr. Clement Apaak has urged the Akufo Addo-Bawumia government to settle its outstanding debt to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to prevent further delays which would negatively disrupt the academic calendar.

Dr. Apaak’s comments follow a press release from WAEC, which stated that the council is waiting for the Ministry of Education to release additional funds to cover an outstanding balance of GHS 118,000,000.00.

These funds are necessary for repairing scanners, enabling the scanning process, and completing other post-examination procedures.

WAEC also urged its officials to be patient, assuring them that their payments would be made as soon as the Ministry of Education releases the funds. Dr. Apaak, in a post on X, formerly Twitter, stated that the Akufo Addo-Bawumia government must immediately pay WAEC to aid the council to carry out their obligations without further delays. He also highlighted that a delay in paying WAEC would negatively affect the already erratic academic calendar.

“The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia gov’t must immediately pay the outstanding balance owed WAEC to enable the examination body to meet its obligations. A delay in paying WAEC will negatively impact an already erratic academic calendar”, the lawmaker tweeted.
