UNITED PRESS FOR DEVELOPMENT NETWORK (UPDN) CALLS ON MEMBERS TO JOIN THE GHANA COALITION AGAINST GALAMSEY’S “RED BAND PROTEST AGAINST GALAMSEY”

[Accra – Ghana, 09/10/24] – The United Press for Development Network (UPDN) wishes to inform and encourage all its esteemed members, media practitioners, and partners to fully participate in the upcoming “Red Band Protest Against Galamsey” organized by the Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey. The protest is scheduled to begin tomorrow, Thursday, 10th October 2024.

This protest is a critical call to action against the menace of illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana, which continues to pose a significant threat to our environment, water bodies, farmlands, and the livelihoods of millions of Ghanaians. The rampant destruction of natural resources through galamsey not only compromises our future but also endangers the very existence of our communities.

UPDN stands in solidarity with the Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey and all stakeholders committed to saving our beloved nation from environmental degradation.

We believe it is the responsibility of every Ghanaian, especially those in the media, to amplify the message, expose illegal mining activities, and hold perpetrators accountable.

We call on all members of UPDN to join the protest and wear red bands as a symbol of our collective resistance to galamsey.

Let us use our platforms to highlight the importance of sustainable practices and the need for government and law enforcement agencies to take decisive action against those involved in illegal mining operations.

Let us raise our voices to safeguard our environment, protect our communities, and secure a better future for generations to come.

Together, we can make a difference!
