At least four have been confirmed dead and 19 other passengers have sustained various degrees of injuries after a gory accident near Essuehyia on the Mankessim–Apam stretch of the Cape Coast-Accra highway. According to eyewitnesses, the accident which occurred this morning involved a fully loaded Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus with registration number GW 7181-22, which was travelling towards Accra.
Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Assistant Division Officer III, Abdul Wasui Hudu, who was among a team dispatched to rescue survivors blamed the accident on a burst tyre. Reports say two victims died on the spot and two others were confirmed dead at the hospital. The injured are receiving treatment at the Our Lady of Mercy Hospital at Apam.
