The University of Ghana Health Services Directorate has issued an alert regarding a recent resurgence of COVID-19 on the Legon campus. They are urging students, staff, and visitors to exercise caution in light of both suspected and confirmed cases within the university community.
In a public notice dated June 23, 2025, the Health Services Directorate reported an increase in cases and outlined several preventive measures to help curb a potential outbreak. These measures include:
- Wearing face masks in enclosed or crowded spaces
- Regular handwashing or use of alcohol-based sanitizers
- Maintaining a physical distance of at least one meter
- Ensuring proper ventilation in offices and lecture halls
Additionally, the Directorate advises individuals to avoid large gatherings whenever possible and to stay home if they experience flu-like symptoms, emphasising the importance of seeking early medical attention.
“The Health Services Directorate has reactivated its COVID-19 Response Protocols, including screening and triage at our health facilities,” the statement read. “We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide regular updates.” The notice comes as health officials worldwide continue to track new variants of the virus, with institutions and governments urged to remain vigilant and avoid complacency.
University authorities are encouraging members of the campus community to cooperate with health personnel and adhere strictly to all safety protocols in a collective effort to protect public health. “Anyone experiencing symptoms or seeking more information is advised to contact the University Hospital at Legon,” the statement added.
