The University of Cape Coast has suspended its affiliation and mentorship arrangement with the Royal Nursing College in Tafo-Kumasi after regulators revoked the institution’s accreditation. This comes after the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), in exercising its regulatory authority, in February shut down the nursing training school for non-compliance with regulatory directives. In a statement issued Wednesday, March 11, 2026, UCC said the suspension takes effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice.
UCC explained that the decision was triggered by the college’s failure to comply with regulatory directives issued by the university, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission.
“The decision has been necessitated by the College’s non-compliance with regulatory directives and instructions,” the statement said.
The university said it remains committed to maintaining high academic quality standards across all institutions operating under its affiliation and mentorship arrangements.
It added that it will continue to work with regulators to ensure that academic programmes run by its affiliated institutions comply with approved frameworks.
Meanwhile, UCC has introduced a teach-out programme for current Level 300 students of the college to enable them to complete their studies without disruption.
The university also encouraged the Royal Nursing College to take steps to meet regulatory requirements to restore compliance.
