The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has expressed his satisfaction with the party’s decision to reject a proposed amendment that aimed to lower the age ceiling for youth membership from 40 to 35 years. This proposal sparked intense debate during the party’s National Delegates Conference, as many believed it could significantly reshape the structure and influence of the party’s youth wing.
In an exclusive interview on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, July 20, Salam Mustapha revealed that he had strongly opposed the amendment and actively campaigned against it. “I am very happy because I led the revolt against it. I believe I succeeded, so I am glad that the youth wing remains as it is. However, there are one or two other proposals that seek to emphasise the importance of the youth wing. Overall, I am very pleased with the outcome of the conference,” he stated.
He explained that maintaining the current age limit helps sustain the momentum and achievements of the party’s youth front. According to him, a reduction in the age ceiling would have unfairly excluded many energetic and experienced members who have contributed significantly to the youth wing’s growth in recent years.
