Presbyterian Council blesses Bryan Acheampong, urges values-based leadership

The Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has reiterated the importance of spiritual mentorship and moral leadership in public service during a courtesy visit to the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, and the leadership of the Presbyterian Council in Osu on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

The visit formed part of Dr Acheampong’s efforts to deepen institutional engagement and foster dialogue with key faith-based organisations. Addressing the Council, he praised the Presbyterian Church for its long-standing contributions to national development through education, health, civic responsibility, and ethical leadership.

“The Presbyterian Church has not only nurtured great minds through its schools and seminaries, but has also produced leaders of integrity across all sectors,” he stated. “It is only right that we continue to engage and draw from the wisdom and values of the Church.” Dr Acheampong emphasised the need for ongoing collaboration between government institutions and religious bodies in addressing national challenges such as education reform, youth mentorship, and community development. He expressed personal appreciation for the formative role the Church has played in shaping his values and leadership philosophy.

“I am a product of the Church — from infancy to now,” he reflected. “From my earliest days at Mile 7 tolling the church bell with a car rim and crankshaft, to the spiritual mentorship I received from many revered leaders, I have always been grounded in Presbyterian values.”

He also recalled his years at Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC), Legon, as a defining period in his personal and professional development. The Moderator, Rt. Rev. Dr Opare Kwakye, commended Dr Acheampong for remaining grounded in the Church’s principles and urged him to continue upholding those values in his leadership journey.

“We are proud that you’re a great product of PRESEC,” the Moderator said. “And we encourage you to continue allowing those values to shine through in your public and private life.”

The meeting concluded with a prayer and anointing ceremony for Dr Acheampong, symbolising both a spiritual blessing and the Church’s expectation of principled leadership. The Moderator charged him to lead with humility, integrity, and a sense of divine responsibility.

“We bless you today and charge you to carry this responsibility with humility and reverence. May your decisions reflect the faith and discipline we stand for,” he prayed.

Dr Acheampong reaffirmed that moral leadership and public service are inseparable, stressing that his decisions as a politician are informed by the values instilled in him by the Church.

“Whatever role I play — as an MP, as a servant of the people — I carry with me the teachings, discipline, and truth instilled in me by this Church,” he stated.
