Parliament has officially notified the Electoral Commission of a vacancy in the Kpandai constituency, in compliance with a Tamale High Court directive annulling the December 2024 parliamentary election. The Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, conveyed the decision in a letter dated 4 December to EC Chairperson Jean Mensa, citing Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution.
The court, under Suit Number NR/TL/HC/E13/22/25, ordered a rerun of the poll on 24 November after a legal challenge involving multiple respondents. The move now places responsibility on the Commission to set a date for a new election in the northern constituency. The disputed seat has been held by Mathew Nyindam, whose victory was contested in court.
The judgment adds to a growing list of election-related disputes still being resolved a year after President John Dramani Mahama returned to office. The EC has yet to announce a timetable for the rerun, but the notification from Parliament triggers the formal process for voters in Kpandai to return to the polls.
