Political analyst Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante has raised doubts about the effectiveness of the Ad Hoc Committee formed by the National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to safeguard the integrity of the party’s ongoing presidential primary campaign. The committee, established ahead of the January 31 primary, was tasked with promoting discipline, unity, and issue-based campaigning among aspirants.
Speaking to Citi News on Thursday, January 22, 2026, Dr. Asah-Asante cautioned that the campaign atmosphere has grown increasingly hostile, with candidates trading public attacks — a situation he argued the committee should have prevented.
“The campaign has become toxic, with aspirants making damaging remarks about one another. Ironically, these statements are providing the opposition with material that could be used against whichever candidate eventually wins,” he observed.
He further questioned whether the aspirants would genuinely be able to unite after the primary, despite committing to do so under a Peace Pact they signed. “They have signed the Peace Pact to say that they will accept the results and galvanise votes for the winner, but can they come together and campaign properly, because of what they have said?” he asked.
