The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has granted a general amnesty to all members who have been suspended or are facing disciplinary proceedings, as part of its efforts to promote unity and reconciliation within the party. The directive officially lifts all such suspensions and waives any ongoing proceedings against the affected members.
This announcement was made in a statement dated August 16, 2025, signed by the acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey. The decision was reached during an Emergency National Council meeting held on Friday, July 25, 2025. The statement emphasised that all disciplinary matters must be addressed solely according to the procedures, principles, and due process provisions outlined in the party’s constitution.
Reinstatement
It, however, said members who had forfeited their membership of the party would be required to submit a formal application to the national secretariat for reinstatement. “Upon reinstatement, you shall remain ineligible to contest any internal party election until a mandatory two-year period has elapsed,” it pointed out. The statement explained that the measure underscored the NPP’s unwavering commitment to fostering internal cohesion, strengthening solidarity and preparing collectively for the political tasks ahead.
Imposition
It cautioned the leadership of the party at all levels against imposing arbitrary suspensions. The statement stressed that all disciplinary matters must follow due process as outlined in the party’s constitution. The National Secretariat requests your full compliance with this directive,” the statement added, urging party executives across the country to strictly adhere to the new directive.
