NPP disowns comments by Abronye and Chairman Wontumi; reaffirms commitment to democratic processes

The National Leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has publicly disavowed statements made by two of its regional chairmen, emphasizing that their recent comments “do not reflect the values and practices of the party.” In a press release dated September 28, 2025, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party urged the public to “disregard the recent statements made by the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, and the Bono Regional Chairman, Mr. Kwame Baffoe, who is commonly known as Abronye DC.”

The criticism addresses two controversial issues. First, the party clarified the proper procedure for compiling polling station albums, which Mr. Baffoe had implied he could manipulate during a televised broadcast. The release stated, “The Party wishes to categorically assert that no individual, regardless of rank or position, has exclusive or unilateral control over the compilation of polling station albums.”

It further assured that the process would be transparent, noting that “the National Secretariat will, at the appropriate time, issue clear and transparent guidelines, protocols, and procedures designed to safeguard integrity, credibility, and fairness at every stage of the process.”

The release directly addressed an allegation made by Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, who claimed that the scheduled date for the presidential primaries was biased. The party stated, “Mr. Boasiako has alleged that the decision to hold the Party’s presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, was designed to favour a particular aspirant. We affirm that this assertion is unfounded.”

The party explained that the decision to hold an early congress was strategic, emphasising, “The early congress date is intended solely to give the Party sufficient time and strategic advantage to reorganize, reposition, and regain power in 2028.” The statement concluded with a strong reassurance of the party’s principles, stating, “The Party remains firmly committed to upholding transparency, fairness, and internal democracy in all its processes.”
