The Majority Caucus in Parliament has demanded the immediate cancellation of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency, citing allegations of vote-buying during the process. In a statement issued on February 8, 2026, and signed by Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, the caucus noted that it had observed widespread reports of inducement in the recently concluded NDC primary in the Greater Accra Region.
The Majority Caucus has sharply criticised the alleged actions, labelling them as contrary to the NDC’s proclaimed mission of reshaping Ghana’s political landscape and restoring integrity to the democratic process. The statement explained that, after thorough deliberations, both the core and extended leadership of the caucus agreed to formally present their stance to the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee. Consequently, the caucus is insisting on the immediate annulment of the Ayawaso East primary.
It further called for the disqualification of any candidate who participated in the primary and is found to have engaged in vote-buying or other unethical conduct, barring such individuals from contesting in any subsequent primary organised after the annulment. “The NDC Majority Caucus remains committed to restoring integrity to our politics,” the statement said, emphasising the need for decisive action to deter future electoral misconduct within the party.
