Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has confirmed the full rollout of the Mahama Care programme, a flagship initiative aimed at combating non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Introduced in 2025, the programme provides comprehensive treatment for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases.
Speaking at the Accra Reset Addis Reckoning event in Addis Ababa on Saturday, February 14, the Minister highlighted the government’s wide-ranging health sector reforms since President John Dramani Mahama assumed office—changes he emphasised have transformed healthcare delivery. “Since the President took office, significant reforms have been implemented in the health sector. We are taking our destiny into our own hands and investing in areas where support is most needed,” he stated.
He highlighted the urgent need to address non-communicable diseases, which are responsible for nearly 42% of all deaths in Ghana. Akandoh’s remarks underscore the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare systems and ensuring that life-saving interventions reach Ghanaians most at risk from non-communicable diseases.
