Singer Minister OJ has asserted that a person can date multiple people at the same time. He clarified that, before his marriage, he did not have a girlfriend or fiancée, but he did mention that there were women he was “talking with at church.” The Gospel star explained that dating is simply about getting to know another person while considering the possibility of a future together, and this does not necessarily involve intimacy.
“During my time, dating wasn’t like it is today, where it often means having sex and cohabiting. Dating was about studying the person and their character. You could date two or three people at once,” he said. “You can date multiple women. We’ve just changed the meaning of the word in Ghana.”
OJ expressed his concern about the casual use of words in Ghana, which lacks sensitivity to their actual meanings. He compared it to calling every beverage “tea,” while there are distinct differences, such as between tea and chocolate drinks. He also pointed out that some people wrongly refer to traditional marriage ceremonies as engagements. “In reality, traditional marriage is a true marriage,” he noted. “The Western-style traditional marriage is what we call a white wedding, and then we have our traditional marriage, where we formally ask for the bride from her parents. That’s a proper marriage.”
Nana Romeo, speaking on Okay FM, asked OJ if he had been involved with any woman before marrying his wife. OJ acknowledged he understood the intent behind the question but lightheartedly remarked that it was his choice to answer or not.
