Ghanaian politician Ken Agyapong, who aspires to be the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the Church to take a more active role in guiding the country’s leadership. He urged collaboration between religious leaders and politicians to promote national development.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Eternal Life Church in Accra on Sunday, November 2, Agyapong, who aims to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections, emphasised that the influence of the Church could help restore public trust in political leadership. “The current situation requires that the Church be bold in coming forward to provide direction on who should lead this country,” he stated. He acknowledged that politicians have often broken the trust of the public, while religious leaders have significant sway over the beliefs of citizens.
“We politicians have lied to the citizens of this country so many times that they have lost trust in us. But when men of God speak to them, they believe. That is why the Church must do more to help this country.” Agyapong emphasised the need for partnership between politicians and the Church to drive industrialisation and development.
“The politicians and the Church should collaborate as partners for the development of this country,” he said. “I encourage the Church to work with politicians to help build this country through industrialisation.” He reiterated that the influence of religious leaders could be leveraged to achieve lasting progress in Ghana.
“When men of God speak, people listen. That is why I believe politicians and the Church must work hand in hand to achieve lasting progress for this country,” he said. Agyapong has been touring the country, engaging party delegates and grassroots supporters, outlining his vision of leadership anchored on honesty, hard work, and industrial growth.
