The Patriotic Youth Alliance (PYA), the youth wing of Ghana’s ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed its support for the party’s decision to grant amnesty to all suspended members and those currently facing disciplinary actions. This amnesty was announced by Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey and endorsed by the National Council last month. It lifts existing suspensions and halts ongoing disciplinary proceedings.
In a statement, the PYA described this move as “bold and visionary,” emphasising that it would help “heal wounds and reinvigorate our party’s base as we prepare for the significant political challenges ahead.” The group also commended the leadership’s directive to end arbitrary suspensions, urging that due process should guide future disciplinary measures.
“This safeguard will protect members’ rights, promote fairness, and preserve the integrity of our democratic tradition,” the statement added. The PYA pledged to mobilise grassroots members to strengthen party unity in anticipation of the upcoming general elections.
