A fire outbreak has totally burnt down a sawmill at Asene in the Asene Akroso Manso district in the Eastern region. At about 1:6am at Dawn today 10th November, residents near the premises saw blasts coming out of the sawmill and moved farther away for safety.
The Ghana fire service was called to the rescue and struggled with limited water to contain the situation as they moved in and out thrice with residents who are near assisting in bringing the fire down.
Although there is a refuse dumping ground behind the sawmill, witnesses when being engaged by Ahenkan FM confirmed that the fire was not from the refuse site as many may think but an enemy of progress who wants to claim the land on which the sawmill was sited started the fire.
Speaking to Kwaku owusu (Azar) the owner of the sawmill, he confirmed that one alleged Koyo whom he suspects might be the one behind this as he approached him to have a conversation that forewarned of the situation now. He disclosed that the alleged, Koyo told him in the recent week that the land has been bought by a filling station even though the traditional rulers have already given it to him to operate the sawmill.
According to Kwaku Azar, 7 machines worth between Gh¢4000 to Gh¢20,000 have been burnt totally which will make it hard for him to start the business again as he started last year in December 2020 with hard work.
Probing further into the matter, it appears that the fire was really planned and this has made the in-law of the victim, Apostle Yaw Sarfo the founder of Prophetic Jesus Power Ministry to put a price of Gh¢5000 on the head of the perpetrator for anyone who fishes him out.
Currently, investigations by the Akyem Asene Police department are ongoing to bring the perpetrator before the law.
