The U.S. Embassy in Accra has announced a temporary suspension of most routine consular services from July 20 to July 31, 2026, to facilitate scheduled maintenance at its facility. In a notice issued on Tuesday, July 14, the Embassy confirmed that normal operations will resume on Monday, August 3. “Routine consular services at U.S. Embassy Accra will be paused from July 20 to July 31, 2026, for scheduled facility maintenance and will resume August 3, 2026,” the statement read.
The Embassy further indicated that certain walk-in services will be unavailable during the maintenance period, specifically notarial services and Consular Reports of Death Abroad (CRODA). However, applicants whose passports or Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA) are ready for collection will still be able to pick them up on designated days.
It explained that applicants who have received email notifications confirming their documents are ready “can still report to the Embassy on Thursdays between 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm.” The Embassy further assured U.S. citizens that adult passport renewals submitted through its drop box system would continue to be processed despite the temporary suspension of routine services.
“Adult passport renewals submitted via Embassy drop box will continue to be processed,” the statement added. The Embassy encouraged applicants seeking passport renewal through the drop box service to follow the instructions available on its official website.
