I am out. I am unbroken – Miracles after EOCO release

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, aide to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced his return to active politics, declaring that his recent four-day detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has only reinforced his resolve to lead the party’s communications directorate.

Released on Tuesday, July 14, after satisfying his GH¢50 million bail conditions, Aboagye described the ordeal as an experience that “added fuel to the fire” rather than breaking his spirit.

In a statement following his release, the former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD) reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing the role of NPP’s next National Communications Director. “I am out. I am unbroken. And I am more ready than ever. Thank you Patriots!” he wrote.

He dismissed reports linking his interrogation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to the alleged GH¢55 million financial and procurement-related irregularities, insisting the issue was never raised during his engagement with investigators. Miracles, however, expressed confidence that the truth would eventually emerge. He stressed that neither Ghanaians nor members of the NPP would be misled by what he termed as inaccurate claims surrounding his arrest.

“For the records: There was no discussion of any GH¢55 million cedis with me by EOCO. None!!!” he stated. The NPP communicator also praised party supporters who demonstrated and publicly demanded his release, saying their actions gave him strength throughout his time in custody.

According to him, the support shown by party members represented a defence of the principle that no individual should be intimidated into silence. “If the intention was to break me, it has failed. If the intention was to scare me, it has failed spectacularly,” he said, adding that he remained determined to lead the NPP’s Communications Directorate and “command the narrative.”

Miracles further thanked his legal team, party leadership and supporters for standing with him during the period, describing the journey as a collective effort. His release follows his arrest by EOCO after he arrived at the Accra International Airport on Sunday, July 12. Immigration officers apprehended him upon his arrival and subsequently handed him over to the anti-graft agency.

Meanwhile, EOCO has explained that the arrest forms part of ongoing investigations into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities involving about GH¢55 million during his tenure as Executive Secretary of the IMCCoD. The former IMCCoD accountant, Gerald Appiah, was also arrested alongside Aboagye as investigations into the alleged infractions continue.
