The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled its National Delegates Conference for Saturday, September 19, where delegates will elect new National Officers and address other party matters. The date was confirmed in a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong on July 8. According to the statement, the decision was taken by the National Executive Committee and later endorsed by the National Council at meetings held on June 25. The conference is being convened under Article 10(1) of the Party Constitution.
Ahead of the gathering, the General Secretary, acting under Article 19(2), formally invited proposals for constitutional amendments. The NPP said all proposed amendments should be submitted to the Office of the General Secretary at the Party’s National Headquarters or electronically to `nppconstitutional.amendment@gmail.com. The deadline for the submission of all proposals is Friday, 17 July.
The party encouraged all members and stakeholders to take advantage of the constitutional review process “by submitting proposals that will further strengthen the Party’s structures, enhance its internal democratic processes, and promote effective governance.” “As the Party prepares for its National Delegates Conference, it remains committed to constitutionalism, internal democracy, and the rule of law, ensuring adherence to the Party Constitution and its democratic traditions,” the statement said.
