Stay home if you have not yet left home – Interior Minister

The Ministry of the Interior urges the public to exercise utmost caution following this morning’s heavy rains and widespread flooding.

  • Stay put: As a precaution, individuals are advised to remain where they are until conditions improve. Those at home should stay indoors, while those at workplaces or other safe locations should remain there until it is safe to travel.
  • Avoid unnecessary movement: Motorists and pedestrians must not attempt to drive or walk through flooded roads, bridges, or waterways, as rising floodwaters pose serious risks to life and property.
  • Emergency response: The Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, NADMO, and other emergency agencies have been deployed to monitor the situation, assist affected persons, manage traffic, and conduct rescue operations where necessary.

The Ministry underscores that public cooperation is essential to protecting lives and property during this emergency.

Emergency contacts: Individuals requiring urgent assistance or wishing to report persons in distress are encouraged to reach out to the following emergency services:

Flood-prone areas: Residents in vulnerable communities are strongly advised to move to higher ground where it is safe to do so.

Emergency reporting: Any emergencies or persons in distress should be promptly reported to the nearest security agency or emergency response service.

Remain calm and comply: The public is urged to stay calm, follow the instructions of security and emergency personnel, and rely solely on official channels for information and updates.

* Ghana Police Service: 18555 or 112
* Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS): 192
* National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO): 112

The safety and well-being of the public remain the Government’s highest priority. The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as necessary.
