Fire Service dispatches rescue teams after morning floods hit Accra, Tema, and Kasoa

Rescue teams from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have been deployed to multiple locations—including Ningo, Miotso, Ridge Hospital, Kasoa, Gomoa Nyanyano, and Tema New Town—following Monday morning floods. The heavy rains triggered widespread flooding in parts of Accra, disrupting activities and causing severe traffic congestion. At the Tetteh Quashie Interchange, vehicles were trapped in gridlock, while sections under the rail overpass from the Spintex Road roundabout (near Action Chapel) towards the Polo Grounds and Hajj Village were submerged, worsening traffic delays.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) issued an alert confirming flooding across Accra and Tema, with areas such as Abeka, Lapaz, Achimota, Dzorwulu, Tesano, and surrounding communities heavily affected. In southwestern Accra, commuters travelling from Kasoa towards the city on the N1 highway through Weija Barrier and Mallam faced major disruptions as floodwaters overtook the road.

Several low‑lying areas and key arterial routes remain inundated, forcing vehicles to move slowly through submerged sections, while some motorists have abandoned flooded roads altogether.

Some of the affected areas are Tantra, N1 Highway, Apenkwa towards Tesano, the Accra–Kasoa stretch, Weija, Mallam, Achimota, Spintex, Atomic in Madina, Kaneshie, Darkuman Junction, portions of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, and other surrounding communities, according to residents and road users.

Some homes and shops in flood-prone communities are also inundated, forcing occupants to move belongings to safer locations as water levels continue to rise.
