Ghana have sealed qualification for the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup ahead of their final Group L fixture against Croatia, FIFA announced. The Black Stars advanced with four points following a 1-0 victory over Panama and a draw against England. Results elsewhere on Friday ensured that teams with four points are mathematically guaranteed a knockout berth under the expanded 48-team format.
Ghana join Egypt, England, Portugal, and Paraguay as the first nations to secure early passage. Under the new structure, the top two sides from each of the 12 groups qualify automatically, alongside eight of the best third-placed teams. While progression is assured, Saturday’s clash with 2018 finalists Croatia will determine Ghana’s final standing and knockout opponent. A win could secure top spot in Group L, while a draw or defeat may leave them second or among the leading third-placed qualifiers.
The achievement marks a turnaround after Ghana’s group-stage exit at the previous World Cup. Midfield anchor Thomas Partey, absent from the opener due to documentation issues, is now available for the Croatia match. Paraguay have also confirmed their place in the Round of 32 and will face Germany, with Ghana’s opponent to be decided once all group matches conclude.
