Patang residents threaten election 2028 boycott over poor roads

Residents of Patang Village in the Ga East Municipality have threatened to stage a demonstration and boycott the 2028 general election due to the poor condition of the roads in their area. They report that the roads have become nearly impassable, especially during the rainy season, as a result of the alleged encroachment of the Dakobi River by private developers.

The residents claim that this encroachment has altered the river’s natural course, leading to erosion and weakening sections of the road along the Dakobi stretch, which has significantly hampered access to their community. In an interview with Citi News, the residents accused both the Ga East Municipal Assembly and the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly, which share jurisdiction over the area, of issuing permits to the developers despite the negative environmental and infrastructural impacts.

The residents are calling on the relevant authorities to intervene urgently to restore the affected roads and address the alleged encroachment on the river. Frustrated by what they describe as years of neglect, some residents warned that they would withhold their participation in future elections if their concerns are not addressed.

“Anyone who dares bring a ballot box here during the next general election will incur our wrath,” one resident said. The residents are calling on the relevant authorities to intervene urgently to restore the affected roads and address the alleged encroachment on the river.
