8,000 newly recruited health workers to begin work by July — Akandoh

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has announced that all 8,000 newly recruited health workers are expected to begin work by July, as placement processes near completion. Speaking on the status of the recruitment exercise, the Minister said the government is working to ensure a smooth onboarding of the recruits into the health system, expressing optimism that the remaining administrative processes will be completed within the month.

“I don’t want to give a specific date, but at the latest, I think by July we should be done with it,” Akandoh stated. “We are looking at them starting work in July.” To facilitate the process, he disclosed that the Ministry will soon publish the names of all recruited personnel, together with details of the locations where they are expected to attend their interviews.

The publication, he explained, is intended to provide clarity to applicants and address concerns that have emerged regarding postings and interview arrangements. “We are going to publish all the names and where they’ll be going for their interviews,” he said, adding that successful candidates would be absorbed into the system after completing the required procedures.

Meanwhile, Akandoh revealed that rural communities remain a key focus in the deployment of the newly recruited health workers, with priority being given to underserved areas where staffing gaps continue to affect service delivery. The planned deployment, he said, forms part of efforts to strengthen healthcare.
