The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art 500-bed children’s hospital at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. He revealed that funding for this ambitious healthcare project has already been secured. This announcement was made during a courtesy visit by officials from the Ministry of Health, who met with the Ga Mantse to discuss healthcare-related issues and to strengthen collaboration on public health measures.
The focus of their discussion included community protocols aimed at preventing and responding to the threat of the Ebola virus. The meeting provided a platform for both parties to explore ways to improve healthcare delivery and enhance preparedness for potential public health emergencies.
It was during these discussions that the Ga Mantse unveiled details of the proposed children’s hospital project, which he described as a major intervention aimed at improving pediatric healthcare services in Ghana. He disclosed that engagements with the management and board of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital had yielded positive results, including the allocation of land for the facility.
“We contacted the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital because they have a vast land on the right side of the hospital when you enter. So they gave us five acres of that land to see if we could design something for a 500-bed children’s hospital. “I have been able to bring in investors and we have put in a lot of work. We have met with the board of the hospital and we are eager to put this project into action.”
The proposed facility is expected to complement existing healthcare services at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, which remains Ghana’s premier referral health institution and one of the largest teaching hospitals in West Africa. The announcement was welcomed by officials from the Ministry of Health, who acknowledged the potential impact such a facility could have on Ghana’s healthcare system.
Expressing appreciation for the initiative, Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, commended the Ga Mantse for his commitment to supporting healthcare development and indicated that the ministry would seek additional information regarding the project.
