The Ghana Police Service has arrested a woman identified as Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, over allegations that she issued threats against President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama in a series of viral social media videos.
In a statement released on Thursday, May 21, 2026, the Police confirmed that the suspect appeared in multiple TikTok recordings that have since gone viral, in which she allegedly made derogatory remarks and threats directed at the President and his wife. “The content of the videos went beyond insults,” the statement noted, adding that some remarks were deemed incisive and allegedly encouraged others to harm the President and the First Lady.
Following the circulation of the videos online on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, a joint investigation team comprising the Inspector‑General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) and the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department traced the suspect to her location.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Sekyere Zongo in the Sekyere Kumawu District. She is currently in custody, assisting the police with ongoing investigations. Legal proceedings are expected to follow, with the suspect likely to be arraigned in court in the coming days.
