Ghanaians living in Pretoria are being advised to exercise extreme caution and prioritise their safety as a protest regarding immigration issues is scheduled for Monday, April 28, 2026. In an advisory issued on behalf of the High Commissioner, leaders of the Ghanaian community warned that a group known as the March Organisation plans to demonstrate at the Presidency to express their grievances. The statement urged community members to remain vigilant and to be aware of potential security risks.
“I urge everyone to maintain heightened vigilance and prioritise personal safety during this time,” the advisory stated. It also cautioned residents, particularly business owners, to take proactive measures to ensure their safety. “Shop owners are strongly encouraged to close their businesses for the day and avoid areas where protests or demonstrations are taking place,” the statement said.
Community members have also been advised against engaging in activities that could escalate tensions. “Please refrain from participating in public gatherings that could escalate into confrontation,” the advisory warned. Additionally, Ghanaians have been urged to maintain a low profile both offline and online, including avoiding the circulation of potentially inflammatory content.
“Individuals are also encouraged to maintain a low profile and act with discretion in both public spaces and online platforms,” it added. The High Commission indicated that further updates will be communicated as the situation develops.
