21 arrested after deadly Binduri convoy attack – GAF

The Ghanaian military has reported that 21 individuals have been arrested in connection with a deadly ambush on a civilian convoy in the Upper East Region. Security operations are ongoing to track down additional suspects. The Ghana Armed Forces stated that the attack occurred on Monday in the Binduri area when a convoy carrying approximately 140 civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga came under heavy gunfire from unidentified assailants. Three civilians were killed, and one person was injured during the attack.

Soldiers who were escorting the convoy returned fire, repelling the assault and killing seven of the attackers, according to the military. During the pursuit of those who fled, troops recovered a G3 rifle, two magazines containing 20 rounds each, and 176 rounds of ammunition from a suspect who had sought refuge in a mosque.

Speaking to Channel One News, the acting director general of public relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, said the number of suspects in custody had risen to 21. She said those arrested were assisting with investigations and that operations were ongoing to find others believed to be involved.

Captain Arhin described the situation as evolving and warned against attacks on security personnel carrying out official duties. The convoy had been travelling under military protection along the Bawku to Bolgatanga route, an area where tensions have persisted in recent times.
