Ibrahim Saani Daara, the Content Lead for CAF, has called for a careful and forward-looking approach in selecting a new head coach for the Black Stars. He emphasised the importance of long-term stability over short-term results. His comments come following the dismissal of head coach Otto Addo due to a series of disappointing performances by the senior national team.
In an interview on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, March 31, Saani Daara warned that the decision should be made with thorough planning, considering the ongoing transition of the team. He acknowledged the urgency to appoint a new coach before the upcoming international fixtures but urged the Ghana Football Association to prioritise continuity and long-term development.
“While the search for a new coach is ongoing, we must also plan for the future. Our squad is very young, with most players in their early 20s, and has the potential to achieve great success. We therefore need a coach who will not only prepare the team for the World Cup but also remain long-term to stabilise the squad and ensure sustained performance,” he said.
Saani Daara further urged players to demonstrate the same level of commitment to the national team as they show at their clubs, stressing that dedication will be vital to rebuilding form. Meanwhile, discussions over Otto Addo’s replacement have intensified, with several candidates under consideration, including Walid Regragui, Winfried Schäfer, and former Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah.
