Journalists should not be pressured to disclose sources – GJA

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has raised concern over what it describes as a growing practice of police compelling journalists to reveal their sources, warning that the trend is instilling fear within the media space. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, March 18, GJA President Albert Dwumfour cautioned that the development poses a serious threat to press freedom.

He acknowledged the police mandate to investigate matters of public interest but stressed that journalists are not legally obliged to disclose their sources unless directed by a court of law. Dwumfour reiterated the association’s commitment to safeguarding journalistic integrity and urged authorities to respect the rights of media practitioners in the discharge of their duties.
