The Ghana Police Service has opened an investigation into a violent incident that disrupted the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru, Central Region, on February 19. What was intended to be a celebration of student sporting excellence reportedly spiralled into chaos after a confrontation between two schools.
Eyewitnesses recount that tensions escalated between students of Obrachire Senior High Technical School and the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS), culminating in a physical clash. During the disturbance, a student from Obrachire was allegedly assaulted by a group believed to be from SWESBUS. The victim was struck with sticks and pelted with stones before bystanders intervened to restore order.
Videos circulating on social media capture scenes of confusion, showing the injured student surrounded by a crowd as the incident unfolded. He was later taken to a health facility, where he is currently receiving treatment. Police have condemned the violence and assured the public that those responsible will be identified and dealt with in accordance with the law. Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
