60 Aayalolo buses recalled to Accra to ease vehicle shortage – GAPTE

The Managing Director of the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE), Awudu Dawuda, has announced that approximately 60 Aayalolo buses, previously stationed in Takoradi and Kumasi, have been recalled to Accra to ease the current shortage of commercial vehicles.

During a meeting with a delegation led by the Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, at GAPTE’s headquarters in Accra on Friday, January 16, 2026, Mr. Dawuda explained that, with the approval and support of the Minister for Transport, the buses formerly operating in Kumasi and Takoradi have been reassigned to GAPTE to reinforce the Aayalolo service in Greater Accra.

“As I speak, with the assistance of our sector minister, we have successfully returned those buses to GAPTE’s management, including those previously sent to Takoradi, to strengthen Aayalolo operations in Greater Accra,” he stated. Mr Dawuda further revealed that a four-acre bus terminal at Kasoa, which had been lost, has been successfully reclaimed, adding that other bus terminals at Adenta and additional locations have also been recovered.

“Many of our terminals were taken away, including the one at Kasoa. I can affirm that we have reclaimed this terminal for GAPTE. We have also reclaimed terminals in Adenta, Kimbu, Amasaman, and Pokuase, allowing us to operate these buses more effectively. These terminals are to enable easier access for passengers to park their vehicles and board the buses,” he added.
