Sam George to address press today on DStv pricing standoff

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel George, is scheduled to address the press on Monday, September 29, 2025, regarding the ongoing standoff with MultiChoice Ghana, the operators of DStv, concerning the reduction of subscription fees.

This press conference follows the Minister’s directive to the National Communications Authority (NCA) to establish a stakeholder committee aimed at evaluating DStv’s pricing in Ghana. The committee, which began its work on September 8, 2025, is expected to present its findings on the same day, September 29, 2025. Its mandate includes developing a shared understanding of DStv pricing in Ghana and proposing commercially viable measures to address the concerns raised by Minister Samuel George.

It was further tasked with designing a roadmap to curb cross-border piracy of DStv decoders and services from Nigeria into Ghana. At the briefing, the Minister will present recommendations from the committee reviewing DStv’s pricing structure and proposing commercially viable measures acceptable to both the company and the government.

The engagement seeks to clarify — and potentially settle — the standoff, with the Minister repeatedly threatening suspension and DStv resisting demands for price reductions.
