President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy is not only intact but has also received its largest funding boost since its inception. While addressing journalists in Accra on Wednesday, September 10, the President refuted claims that his government intended to roll back the policy. He announced that his administration has committed GHS 3.5 billion to the Free SHS initiative this year, marking the highest budgetary allocation for the policy to date.
“Contrary to the widespread misinformation that circulated before December 7, 2024, the Free SHS program has not only been maintained; we have made the highest budget allocation in the history of the policy so far,” Mr. Mahama emphasised.
Additionally, the President highlighted the increase in healthcare spending for 2025, noting that the health budget has been raised by 13.4 percent, increasing from GHS 15.6 billion to GHS 17.8 billion. This boost aims to strengthen the healthcare system against both domestic and global health challenges.
