The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has urged the public, especially media practitioners, commentators, bloggers, and content creators, to exercise restraint and accuracy in their commentary regarding the recent crash of an Air Force Z-9 helicopter in the Ashanti Region, which tragically claimed the lives of all eight personnel on board.
In a statement issued by Captain VA Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the GAF expressed concern over a rise in speculative and unsubstantiated reports about the incident. The GAF emphasised that such conjectures not only risk misleading the public but also exacerbate the grief of the families affected.
“For the sake of the bereaved families and loved ones, the Armed Forces urge media practitioners, panellists, social commentators, bloggers, and content creators to be cautious in their reporting. This will show respect for the memories of the fallen heroes and help ease the sorrow of the bereaved families,” the statement read.
The GAF acknowledged the public’s strong interest in the crash and assured that comprehensive investigations have commenced to determine the exact cause. They committed to leaving no stone unturned, including collaborating with international experts if needed, to bring closure to this tragedy.
At this stage, any conclusions drawn from personal opinions, perceptions, or conjectures are deemed premature and misleading. The public is therefore advised to be cautious about such reporting,” the statement emphasised.
The Armed Forces expressed gratitude to the government, institutions, and individuals who have shown support since the crash. It also extended condolences to the families of the service members who lost their lives, describing them as patriots whose sacrifices will be remembered. “May the souls of our patriots continue to rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
